Description

We are hiring people with intellectual or developmental disabilities to work on our organic vegetable farm in Bluemont, Virginia. This person will be working outdoors, planting seeds and seeds and seedlings, weeding, harvesting vegetables, and preparing our weekly produce boxes for delivery to customers. If the employee is interested, they will also have the opportunity to take care of our chickens, goats, and alpacas.This person may also be asked to attend a farmers market on behalf of our farm, which will require interacting with members of the public, and collecting people's money and making change.

We welcome a variety of people at A Farm Less Ordinary. The goal is to "do your best", rather than to be perfect. We have a job coach and a farmer who is patient, happy to model tasks, and provide reminders on how to carry out tasks correctly.

Requirements

  • This is part-time work. Most employees work three days a week.
  • This work is seasonal. Our season ends at the end of October and begins again at the beginning of March.
  • Scheduled work days and work hours are flexible. We try our best to accommodate our employees' needs and disabilities.

  • Employee must be willing to work outdoors - sometimes on hot days.
  • Employee must be willing to get dirty and sweaty; this is farm work.
  • Employee must be able to get transportation to our farm in Bluemont (Clarke County side, very close to Loudoun County).
